VC's Christmas Message

To all our friends in this holiday season,

Instead of sending corporate Christmas cards, as has now become our Christmas tradition we send an e-mail instead. The money we save goes to (and will continue to support) scholarships for students from low-income backgrounds.
 
In keeping with the spirit of Christmas we have put together a humorous greeting e-card to spread our Christmas message. The world, as usual, is full of problems - injustice, oppression and natural disasters are constantly in the news. In 2009 we were faced with a recession. Many people found themselves out of work and families struggled more than ever to make ends meet. But those of us lucky enough to work in universities do not despair because we know that we are helping to shape a better world in which more and more people will get the opportunity to realise their full potential.

University academics help us to understand our world and our place in it. Our graduates become the teachers, scientists and artists who will guide us to the future. And, in a season of gift-giving, our universities remain one of the greatest gifts a society can give to itself.

Please accept our best wishes for the holidays, and for a healthy, happy, and peaceful 2010.
