Macquarie Staff Recognised Nationally
Dear colleagues,
I’d like to share with you some great news about the recent achievements of our staff.
At an awards ceremony held last night, the following seven individuals or teams received Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council:
- Jennifer Nicholls of the Institute of Early Childhood
- Lindie Clark (Health and Chiropractic); Theresa Winchester-Seeto (Learning and Teaching Centre) and Mark Taylor (Physical Geography)
- Lindy Cooper, Robyn Guilmette, Patricia Lewis, Lorraine Whybrow and Kylie Coaldrake of the Department of Linguistics
- Michael Cavanagh of the School of Education
- Mitch Parsell of the Learning and Teaching Centre
- Catriona MacKenzie, Mianna Lotz, Cynthia Townley of the Department of Philosophy
- Martina Mollering of the Department of European Languages.
These $10,000 national awards, formerly known as Carricks, recognise those who have made a long-standing contribution to the quality of student learning.
In particular, I’d like to praise the efforts of “Team Linguistics” for demonstrating how professional staff can contribute to student learning – in their case by improving support for international postgraduate students within their Department.
The large number of Citations again this year demonstrates that we’re well on our way to achieving the Teaching and Learning goals outlined in Macquarie @ 50.
In addition, on August 19, two Macquarie entrants will contest the finals of the 2008 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes, the premier science prizes in this country.
Director of GEMOC, Sue O'Reilly is a finalist in the Leadership in Science category - which incidentally was won by Max Coltheart last year - while the Indigenous Science Education Program team led by Joanne Jamie are finalists in the Promoting Understanding in Science category for their project Engaging Indigenous Students in Science.
Good luck to both entrants and congratulations again to all our Citation winners.
