The 2010 Macquarie University Handbook is now online

Launched online last week, the 2010 Macquarie University Handbook will enhance searches and improve the linkage between degrees, majors and units relating to the new curriculum – and it’s all thanks to the monumental effort of the University's Marketing Web Team and the Academic Programs Section.

The handbook is one of our most popular web sites. There have been over 289,000 unique visitors in the past 10 months viewing more than 5.4million pages. The new site uses a brand new database making it faster and more reliable, and creates a streamlined process for managing our course data.

Some of the features and changes of the online handbook include:

●    Improved search capabilities
●    Improved linkage between degrees, majors and units
●    People and Planet Units
●    Majors
●    It remembers what you opened
●    Undergraduate degrees, majors and units are printable

The new online handbook is not just for students. An added feature for staff includes a Reporting feature which grants access to the latest coursework information. Now, staff can download and print the latest Schedule of Units.

The handbook database will streamline the course approvals process, replacing the cumbersome paper-based system we previously had. This feature is still being refined and will be rolled out in early 2010, with training provided for relevant Faculty staff.

Behind the scenes, the ITS team have provided an infrastructure to keep our data safe. Files are backed up weekly and a disaster recovery plan is in place, all synchronised offsite to ensure that if the worst happens it’s still business as usual online.

A limited number of printed handbooks will be available for Information Day 5 January 2010.
