Media Skills Seminars for Research Academics

Dear researchers,

There are a small number of places available, on a first-come/first-served basis, at four free media skills seminars being held on Wednesday and Thursday this week (September 3 and 4). The cost of these seminars will be borne by Marketing.

These seminars are run by the Marketing Unit to support our efforts to publicise the University's research effort. They are presented by former ABC newsreader Richard Morecroft and are designed to assist our researchers who either currently interact with the media, or who are likely to in future. These sessions have been extremely popular with participants in previous years.

They are held in informal small groups, and involve 3 hours of active, guided discussion where Richard covers topics including:

* understanding what the media look for in a story;
* fostering relationships with journalists;
* identifying and promoting the key messages in a research project;
* improving interview performance skills and identifying tools for better communication.

The seminars are held in the large meeting room of the Marketing Unit on level 2 of the Becton Dickinson building. There is no cost to participants, and morning/afternoon tea is also provided. To RSVP for one of the upcoming seminars, email Macquarie's Media Manager, Greg Welsh, at greg.welsh@mq.edu.au with your preferred session number
