Bob Carr Book Launch
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Schwartz invites you to the launch of the book My Reading Life, written by Bob Carr, former Premier of New South Wales.
The launch takes place from 5pm on Wednesday 7 May 2008 in the Price Theatre, Macquarie University.
My Reading Life is a personal investigation into the nature of democracy, dictatorship, decency and the hardwired human condition. In it, Bob Carr shares his profound love of books and reading – books you’ve never heard of, books you’ve always wanted to read, books you will rediscover afresh.
The Vice-Chancellor will facilitate a Q&A session where Bob Carr will be happy to answer your questions about his reading choices, which range from the works of Tolstoy, Proust, Flaubert, Solzhenitsyn, Edward Gibbon and James Joyce to the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh.
After the Q&A session, Bob will be available for signings and his book will be on sale before and after the launch outside Price Theatre. Refreshments will be served.
All proceeds from My Reading Life will be donated to Interplast Australia & New Zealand, a charity responsible for sending teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses to developing countries in the Asia Pacific Region to perform operations and provide and medical training.
Bob Carr was premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005. He worked as a journalist for the ABC and The Bulletin before entering politics, and is known for his oratory, for his environmentalism, and for his commitment to schooling and literacy.
