Alumni Lecture "Gallipoli Before Gallipoli" - 19 August 2008
The Division of Humanities, in conjunction with the Alumni Relations Office, wishes to invite you to the 2nd lecture of the 2008 Alumni Lecture Series on Tuesday 19 August 2008 at the Museum of Ancient Cultures from 7-9pm.
The Lecture is titled 'Gallipoli before Gallipoli: Kallipolis (Gelibolu) between Byzantium and the Catalan Grand Conspiracy'. Guest speakers are Professor Samuel Lieu and Associate Professor Edwin Judge (Department of Ancient History)
This presentation will chart the rise of Kallipolis (Callipolis) in Late Antiquity and Byzantium, from a little known Graeco-Roman city, to the centre of confrontation between Byzantium and the Latin West in the Crusade period.
