MQ Announcements

Macquarie University’s New Chancellor

Dear Colleagues and Students,

New Macquarie University Chancellor, the Honourable Michael EganI am very pleased to announce that at last night’s meeting of the Macquarie University Council, the Honourable Michael Egan was elected the University’s new Chancellor.

Many of you will know Michael due to his record term as NSW Treasurer in the Carr Government between 1995 and 2005, where he served the State with distinction. Michael also has wide-ranging governance experience through his roles as Chairman of the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology, Chairman of the Australia Day Council of New South Wales and as a Governor of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research.

Importantly, Michael has also been a member of Council since 2006, so he knows Macquarie University well and has worked alongside the outgoing Chancellor, Mr Maurice Newman AC, for a number of years.

I’m sure you will join me in welcoming Michael to his new role at Macquarie, and once more thanking Maurice for his distinguished leadership over the last seven years.
